SMITH, Edward (Ted) Frederick - Age 92, of Flint Township, died Sunday, February 11, 2018. Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday February 17 at the Salvation Army, 211 W. Kearsley, Flint, Captain Caleb Senn officiating. Visitation will be held 4PM-8PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Home, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will also be held 10AM until time of service at the Salvation Army. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. Edward was born in Flint, on January 1, 1926, the son of the late Frederick Owen and Marion Evangeline (MacDougall) Smith. He married Roberta Herman in Flint on August 9, 1952. Edward played trombone with the Flint Symphony Orchestra and was the past bandmaster at the Salvation Army Flint Corps. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from the Kearsley School system as a band instructor with 30 years of service. Edward was an avid golfer and enjoyed painting in his retirement. Surviving are: his wife of 65 years, Roberta Smith of Flint; daughter, Marla (Martin) Zwolan of South Haven; granddaughter, Stephanie (Jason) Gonzalez of Chicago, IL; grandson, Christopher Zwolan of Elmhurst, IL. Edward is also survived by his brother, John (Jean) Smith of Clearwater, FL; sister, Ruth (Henry) Tempel of Corunna, sister-in-law Melva Smith of The Woodlands, TX and many nieces and nephews.
