PREVILLE, Edward Jerome, age 93, of Flint Twp., died August 25, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Tues., Aug. 30 at St. Mary Queen of Angels, Swartz Creek, Mich., with Fr. Louis Ekka as celebrant. Interment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 pm Mon. at Sharp Funeral Homes, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Mich., with a rosary at 7 pm and a visitation at 10-11 am at the church prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Powers Catholic High School (www.powerscatholic.org/give-now.html) and to the Flint Institute of Arts (www.flintarts.org).
Edward was born Aug. 9, 1929 in Flushing Twp., to Albert and Louise (Paquette). He married Sandra Lee Arends on Feb. 3, 1951. After receiving an M.A., then serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he came back to Flint and taught. He was a professor at GMI/Kettering for 41 years, rising to the post of Department head of the Humanities and Social Science Dept. and was bestowed with the title of Professor Emeritus. He was a ROBOT Society member, GMI Yearbook and Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity advisor, and spearheaded the opening of the school’s Humanities Art Center and served as its first director. His Catholic faith and education were important to him. He was a lector and in the Knights of Columbus. Also, he served as president of the Genesee County and of the Diocese of Lansing boards of education. Further, he served his community as a member and president of the Flint Institute of Arts Board of Trustees. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and combining their love of literature and art into their trips. Most of all, he loved his family. He is survived by wife, Sandy; daughters, Renée (Terry) Wysocki, Pamela (James) Salem, Nanette (Daniel) Kowalczyk, Denise (Jeffrey) Turck and Cherie Preville, and 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
