Martin, Edward "Marty" J. - Age 88, of Grand Blanc, died Monday, May 13, 2019. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Rd., Grand Blanc, MI 48439. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for contributions to be made to St. Mark's. Ed was born April 3, 1931 in Chicago, IL, the son of Ed and Stella Martynowicz. He was a graduate of St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago, where he played quarterback for the Mustangs, and boxed in the Chicago Golden Gloves tournament. He was a member of the Theta Kappa Phi fraternity, graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana, got married to Patricia Burian on October 16, 1954, and together they left for Ft. Knox, Kentucky, for his assignment as 1st Lieutenant in the 11th Armored Cavalry. After his stint in the Army, he worked as plant manager for Py-O-My Foods in Chicago, and earned his MBA from Loyola University. In 1968, he left the Chicago area with his family to finish his career in Detroit, and became plant manager for Detroit Coca-Cola, general manager at Vernor's, plant manager at Continental Baking Company (Hostess and Wonder Bread), vice-president of Towne Club, and finally retired with the Vie de France bakery. Surviving Edward are: daughter, Pamela Martin (Hildebrand) and husband, Joseph; son, David Martin and wife, Leigh; and five grandchildren, Griffin, Kelsey, Blake, Abby and Karsten. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Jean Martin (Burian). Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint.
