He spent a lot of time with special Uncle Chester and Aunt Myrtle (Hetzer) Ridgley and their daughter, Judy who was like a sister to him. He was married to Geraldine E. Kingsbury on February 25, 1954 in Flint. They were married for 68 years, and had four children.

He then traveled to Florida with his wife, Geraldine for the winter and worked for other autobody shops and motor home repair facilities in the winter while he was in Florida. He worked at Sarge's Camper Sales and for Ryan at Home & Park RV Services in Fenton when he was in Michigan. He also had a remodeling business before he really retired in the early 2000's.

Ed loved to tinker with many different projects at home, swimming in his pool with his family, fishing occasionally, vintage cars, and helping neighbors and friends. He had quite a sense of humor that he inherited from his parents and shared with his siblings. He also had the soul of a teacher, training many people to do autobody repair, and carpentry.
