GOGGINS, Edward Anthony "Ed" "Eddie" - Age 76, of Grand Blanc, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Ave., Flint, Fr. Anthony Strouse celebrant. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly at a later date. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek and at Church Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Powers Catholic High School or to Catholic Charity Center for Hope, Teresa Goggins Kitchen.
Ed was born December 23, 1946 in Flint, the youngest child of Joseph and Teresa (Kearney) Goggins. He was a 1965 graduate of St. Michael Catholic High School and he earned an Associates Degree from Ferris State University. He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Air Force; while in the Air Force he earned 6 Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Ed married Kaygie Worthington August 5, 1985 in Flint and she preceded him in death February 12, 2015. He resided in the Flint area his entire life. He retired in 2012 from NorthGate in Flint; and then worked for Sharp Funeral Homes for many years. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Flint and he served on the Genesee County Board of Canvassers for many years. Ed enjoyed playing golf, watching Notre Dame and Michigan State University football, and he was a devoted horse barn dad. He was very involved in Powers athletics. In 1990 he was the Grand Marshall of the Flint St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Surviving are: his daughter, Kaitlin (Grant) Slomkowski of New Hudson; brother, Thomas Goggins of Flushing; sister, Mary Potbury of Flushing; brother-in-law, Bruce Worthington of Lansing; sister-in-law, Jane Worthington of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rosemary Wisniewski and Pat Kupper; brothers, Jack and Michael Goggins; In-laws, Howard and Vivian Worthington; and brother-in-law, Sidney Worthington. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
