Edsel Stanley Leix, 92, of Byron, Michigan, passed away on November 3, 2022. He was born on December 2, 1929, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Clayton and Margaret
(Flood) Leix. Upon graduating from Utley High School in 1948, Edsel began working for General Motors in Flint. In 1951, he was drafted by the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served in the U.S. Northern Expedition under the 10th Mountain Division in Alaska. After being honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 1953, he continued in the reserves until 1957. In 1953, he returned to General Motors, where he retired with 44 years of service. He met the love of his life Barbara Jean Shepherd in 1956 and together they were married for 65 years. In his spare time, Edsel liked hunting, fishing, drawing, painting, working around the yard and playing “Draw Something” on his iPad with friends he made all over the U.S. and the world. His talent for drawing cartoons and sense of humor will be deeply missed. Edsel is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Leix; children, Ronald Edsel Leix (Lilly), Steven Michael Leix (Imelda), and Diane Marie McConnaughhay; eight grandchildren, grandsons Ron Jr., Nick, Ben, Joe, Kyle and Josh, granddaughters, Contrell and his sweety Amanda; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton Leix and Margaret (Flood) Leix, grandson Troy Leix, and an aunt who was raised with him like a sister, Shirley (Flood) DeMartino. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Internment, with military honors, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, will be announced and held at a future date.
