Edna Harris

HARRIS, Edna May - Age 92, of  Swartz Creek and Gaines, our dearest mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, entered into Heaven, October 21, 2019. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, October 28 at Gaines United Methodist Church, 117 W. Clinton Street, Gaines. Visitation will be held 1-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek and 10 AM until the time of service at the church Monday.  Burial will take place at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery.  Those desiring may make contributions to Gaines United Methodist Church or the Swartz Creek Senior Center.

Edna was born May 8, 1927 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of James and Florence West. Edna attended Utley High School. She worked at Swartz Creek Community Schools, as a secretary for 15 years, until she retired in 1983. She loved traveling the country with the Holiday Ramblers Club, which Edna and Merrell were founding members. Edna also was an active member of Swartz Creek Senior Center. She enjoyed going to Florida, was a 4-H leader for many years, square dancing, painting, sewing, crocheting, crafts, quilting, and bowling. She was devoted to her family, and a proud friend to many. Edna is survived by her children, Dan (Nancy) Harris, Debbie (Michael) Kane, Lynn (Tom) Atherton, Dennis (Sue) O'Brien, Janet (David) Heck, and Janice (Niel) Nielsen; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; in-laws, Doug (Vada) Masak, Bill O'Brien, Margaret O'Brien, Arlene O'Brien, and Jane (Don) Harwood, and Kathy West. She was preceded in death by husband Robert O'Brien; husband Merrell Harris; parents; siblings, Doris Randall, Michael West, Betty West; in-laws, Marilyn O'Brien, Chet O'Brien, Harold O'Brien. Edna's family would like to thank Lodge of Durand, Memory Care, and Grace Hospice - Especially the caregivers for their loving care and support.
