Edmund was born September 29, 1931 in Lapeer, Michigan, the son of Kazimer and Victoria (Wojtasiewicz ) Rozyla. Edmund was the youngest of a large family and he was called Ed for short and often called Butch, which was a nickname given to him by his family in his youth. He graduated from Flint Northern in 1950 and was well known for his athletic prowess in both basketball and baseball, receiving a collection of many letters and accolades for his talent. Ed proudly served during active duty during the Korean War in 1952-53 as a gunnery sergeant. During his tour there he was not only a gunnery Sergeant, but he lead his platoon with a steady head and strong resolve. In fact, his comrades referred to him as “Cool Breeze”. After his tour, he had a long career working for the City of Flint Water Department. During this time he met the love of his life, Lois Kimmery and they wed in 1972, enjoying 32 years of marriage until her death in 2004. Through his youth to the end of his life, Ed was an absolute animal lover and they were one of his biggest passions and he loved them unconditionally. They remained in his heart and memory and he is survived by his cat Buddy. He enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, football and bowling, as well as one of his favorite shows, Lawrence Welk. Ed was a man of few words and quite the private person. Nonetheless he touched many lives and people who were always ready to reach out to him. We extend special thanks to his friends and neighbors Tara McNea and Larry (Rose) Ludwig, who really helped us watch and take care of him. His life was made so much better from the care they gave him right up until the end.
He is survived by his brother, Eugene Rozyla; nieces and nephews, Robert Hoag, Jeffrey Blanchard, Paula Rozyla, Eugene (Sandy) Rozyla, Cynthia (Michael Cooper) Rozyla, Brian (Robin) Rozyla, Cheryl (Kwami Kyei) Rozyla, Chris Rozyla, Julie (David) Clark, Linda Laws, Carol Moorman, Robert (Lisa) Morrow, David (Magda) Morrow; many great nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; and siblings, Julius Gan, Christian Gan, Victoria Blanchard, Albena Sisk, Leo Rozyla, and Kazimer Rozyla.
