Earl Lyons

March 2, 1925 — June 15, 2014

LYONS, Earl L. - Age 89 of Fenton, went home to God at 2:30AM Sunday, June 15, 2014. Funeral services will be 3PM Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Father Dwight Ezop celebrant. Visitation will be held 1PM until time of service Thursday. Burial in Carthage Missouri at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to the St. John Catholic Church Outreach Program. Earl was born March 2, 1925 in Wilburton Kansas the son of the late Charles Nathan and Clara Mae (Swingle) Lyons. He married Deloris Sawyer in Columbus, Kansas on December 21, 1945 and she preceded him in death on October 5, 1998. Earl joined the Army in 1943, he was in the 2nd Wave Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944. He was wounded and rehabbed in England for 3 weeks then returned to France. Earl joined Patton's 3rd Army and fought with 3rd all the way to Germany, he was wounded again in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded 2 Bronze Stars and 3 Campaign Ribbons. Mr. Lyons enjoyed fishing and worked for Goodyear in California from 1946 to 1953 and then for GM Ternstedt from 1953 to 1964. Earl also owned and operated Lyons Well Drilling until 1984 when he retired and moved to Missouri. He later returned to Michigan in 2012. Surviving are : daughter, Sandra (Robert) Simpson of Fenton; daughter-in-law, Kathy Lyons of Traverse City; grandchildren, Amy Lyons (Brandon) Santoni of FL, Jeffrey Lyons of IL, Robert (Wendy) Simpson Jr. of GA, Julie McGrath; great grandchildren, Maliya, Sean, Savannah, Sawyer, Shannon: special sister Ruth Carrell of Clio; sister Shirley Thomas of OH; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death also by his son Kenneth Lyons; granddaughter Kelly Lyons; brothers, Harold, Herman; sisters, Alta, Opal, Thelma, Margaret, MIldred and Harriet.
