Earl Degiorgis

DEGIORGIS, Earl Henry -- Age 87, of Swartz Creek, died Monday, January 9, 2017. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday, January 13 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be 4-9 PM Thursday and again 11 AM until time of service on Friday. Earl was born July 15, 1929 in Flint the son of Biagio (Blais) and Mildred (Vickery) DeGiorgis. In the spring of 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he trained to be a Medical Corpsman. He served with the 1st Marine Division and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion. He received his Purple Heart after being wounded during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in December 1950. After being honorably discharged he was employed at AC Spark Plug (Delphi), retiring in 1992 after 40 years of service. Earl was a very proud Veteran and cancer survivor. He is survived by his son, Tony (Connie) DeGiorgis of Flushing, daughter, Jenette (John) Kimball of Mundy Township; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; special nieces, Sandy, Kathy, Karen, Julie and their families; beloved cousins, Gilda, Dick, and Lois.
