POTTER, Bernice - Age 88, of Flint and Sarasota, FL, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday, June 5, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Interment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Avalon Hospice. Bernice was born May 21, 1918 in Two Harbors, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Nellie (Bissel) Mercier. She was a very giving, kind and loving woman. Bernice was a member of St. Martha Catholic Church and volunteered many years with St. Vincent DePaul in Sarasota. She worked as a secretary at AC Spark Plug and was crowned Queen of General Motors on August 5, 1939 at the age of 21. Bernice married and moved to Florida where she retired as the secretary to the Superintendent of Booker Schools. She was also crowned Queen of Sara-Bay Country Club in Sarasota in 1965. Bernice loved to golf and was instrumental in organizing a junior golf league in Sarasota. Surviving are: two nieces, Cathy (Roger) Weaver of Flint, Ellen (Don) Granbush of Grand Blanc; several great-nieces and nephews; 'her boy', Tim Weaver, Tracy Weaver, Eva Caldwell, Robert Granbush; special Florida daughter, Toneen Slimisk; Zeline Wishing; many friends and neighbors at Rolling Green Golf Village Condos in Sarasota. She was preceded in death by: her parents; six siblings, Art, Frank, Eve, Elsie, George, and Agnes; beloved nephew, Hal McKenzie; great-nephew, Tim Granbush.
