Wohlfert, Duane G. - 69, of Interlochen, formerly of Fenton, died Monday, June 19, 2006 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by his family. Duane was born on November 25, 1936 in Lansing to Basilius and Alice (Vermilyea) Wohlfert. Â Duane grew up in the Lansing area where he attended Michigan State University. Â He was an All-American on the MSU Wrestling Team. Â Duane met his wife, Married Valleau, while they both were attending MSU. Â They married on August 19, 1963 and moved to Fenton in 1964 where Duane started the Fenton High School wrestling program. He also taught History, Geography, P.E., and coached football and wrestling during his tenure in Fenton. Besides his love of American History, Duane also enjoyed camping and traveling with his family and friends. Â He was kind and generous and had a great sense of humor. Â Duane was inducted into both the Michigan Wrestling Association Hall Of Fame and the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall Of Fame. Duane will be dearly missed by his family, his friends, and the many lives that he touched. Besides his loving wife, Mary, Duane is survived by his children Shellie (William) Butler, David (Jennifer) Wohlfert, Christopher (Amy) Wohlfert, and his grandchildren Lane, Tom, & Brian Butler, Â Emily Wohlfert, and Jake Wohlfert. Visitation will be held Friday, June 23rd, from 4-7pm at the Sharp Funeral Home 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430, Â His Memorial Service will follow on Saturday, June 24th at 11am also at the Sharp Funeral Home.
