Duane Pertler

PERTLER, Duane Aloysius -- Age 89, of Gaines, died March 21, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, March 26 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Gaines. Visitation will be 3-8 PM on Sunday and 12 PM until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Those desiring to do so may contribute to the American Heart Association. Duane was born May 15, 1928 in Flint, the son of Aloysius and Lucille (Ogden) Pertler. He attended Gaines High School before enlisting in the United States Army, stationed in Japan with the 9th Division during the Allied occupation. There, he was on the boxing team. He married Barbara Pettit on June 11, 1949 at the Gaines United Methodist Church. He worked for General Motors at Buick City for 30 Years and retired to Houghton Lake. He was a former baseball coach and manager in the Flint City Baseball League. He was an avid baseball fan and fisherman. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara; son, Barry (Beth) of Gaines; grandchildren, Belinda (Ron) Moore of Walled Lake, Blaine (Leisa) Pertler of Flushing, Brea (Martin) Cooper of Ravenna, Brandi (Kevin) Forbes of Flushing; great grandchildren, Doug, Katie, Joe, Nate, Sarah, Aerin, Aerika, Rachel, Abigail, Kayla, Kylie, Kaitlyn; brothers, Don (Joyce) Pertler, Ken Pertler.
