Dr. Manolo Nagano VELARDE

VELARDE, Dr. Manolo , age 71, of Flint, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30PM Friday, November 20, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Rd., Flint. Fr. Tim Nelson celebrant. Entombment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-8PM Wednesday; and 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A rosary will be recited 7PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Building Fund. Dr. Velarde was born December 23, 1937 in the Philippines the son of the late Servillano and Liwayway (Nagano) Velarde. He married Jane Lee on January 14, 1961 in Manila, Philippines. Dr. Velarde was a Dentist in the Philippines and then moved to Flint in 1968. He was employed by Ciba-Geigy as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative; later at Pennwalt Corporation and lastly by General Motors as an Inspector until his retirement in 1998. Dr. Velarde was a member and Special Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and a member of the Greater Flint Filipino Association. Surviving are his wife, Jane; 2 sons, Manuel Velarde of Cincinnati, OH, Noel Velarde of Flint; daughter, Lisa Kendall and husband, Mike of Davison; eight siblings, Dr. Nicholas Velarde, Leticia Aguila, Florinda Mangahis, Attorney Rogelio Velarde, Josephina Palon, Corazon Estrada, Margarita Velarde, Milagros Gavino; and many nieces, nephews and loving family members.
