LYNCH, Dr. Theophilus Shoemaker, "Professor Ted" age 84, of Flint, formerly of Philadelphia, PA died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral Services will be 7PM Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be 5PM Saturday until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be Monday, July 9, 2007 at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Michigan. Professor Lynch was born January 2, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of John F. and Edith (Shoemaker) Lynch. He graduated from Williams College of Massachusetts in 1951, earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Professor Lynch was a veteran of WWII, serving as Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army.  He taught at Ohio University, Rutgers University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, Williams College of Massachusetts and lastly was the Professor of Spanish, French, Latin and Portuguese Languages at the University of Michigan, Flint until his retirement on May 31, 1993 after 43 years as an educator. Professor Lynch was a Life Member of the Modern Language Association and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. He was listed in the Directory of Latin-Americanists and the Directory of American Scholars. Professor Lynch was a member of the Tri-County Foreign Language Association and a gracious contributor to the Frank Friedman Special Education Scholarship Fund (Foundation of Mott College). He enjoyed reading, watching television and had traveled extensively. Surviving are  sister, Rosamond Lynch of Berwyn, PA; 2 nephews, Gerald and Larry Lynch; dear friends, Michael Tobias and Frank Friedman.
