Dr. James Harwood Staples

STAPLES, Dr. James Harwood - Age 90, of Lansing formerly of Linden, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024.  Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Friday, May 3, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St, Linden (A live Stream of the service will be available on Dr. Staples obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com).  Pastor Brad Foster officiating.  Inurnment immediately following in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.  Visitation will be held at the funeral  home Friday, May 3, 2024 from 11:30 AM until the time of the service.  Those desiring may make contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project.  

Dr. Staples was born October 11, 1933 in Detroit, the son of Joshua Jay and Lillian Madeline (Hennessey) Staples.  He was a 1951 graduate of Utica High School and he received a Bachelor's in Science Degree and his Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University.  He was a veteran and Captain of the United States Air Force.  He married Maureen Emily Metcalf June 4, 1960 in Tea Ticket, MA and she preceded him in death February 12, 2022.  Dr. Staples had resided in Lansing for the past year coming from Linden where he had resided since 1968. He was a member of the Michigan State Alumni Association. 

Surviving are: his children, Marion F. Staples of Lansing, James J. Staples of New Hudson and William J. (Patricia) Staples of Houghton; sister-in-law, Geri Staples of Florida; special nephew, Richard (Vickie) Staples of DeWitt; and several other nieces and nephews.  

He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Laura Staples; brothers, William Jay and Glenn Edward Staples. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
