HICKS,  Dr. Elton James  of Flint, formerly of Fenton. Born January 2, 1928. Died suddenly on January 14, 2004. Beloved husband of the late Beatrice (Lovato). Also preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Charys (Ostrander) Hicks. Loving father of Gary Hicks of East Lansing, Dr. Gregory (Joanne) Hicks of Commerce, Tamara (Dennis) Nichols of  Otisville, and Joseph Hicks of Linden. Grandfather of Heather, Samantha, and Griffin Hicks of Milford, Spencer and Whitney Nichols of Otisville, and Ryan, Nathan, and Amber Tobias of Commerce. Brother of Barbara (Jack) LeVac of Lakeland, FL, and Robert (Sylvia) Hicks of Flint. Special cousin of Bernard Buck (Max) Rottiers of Birch Run. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends. Dr. Hicks was a prominent optometrist in the Flint area for many years. Doc, as he was lovingly referred to by his friends and patients, was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who spent much of his time enjoying the outdoors. He also loved gardening. A memorial service will be held at St. Judes Episcopal Church located on the corner of S. Leroy and E. Elizabeth St. in Fenton on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 2 PM with Rev. Elizabeth Morris Downie officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Judes or your favorite charity in Dr. Hicks name.
