EVANOFF, Dr. Stephen A., age 82, a resident of Flint and Charlevoix, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 in Charlevoix. Â Dr. Evanoff was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 3, 1922 the son of Kosta and Lenka (Martinoff) Evanoff. He has been a Flint resident most of his lifetime where he married Phyllis Gorbutt in 1946. Dr. Evanoff attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Central High School. He then attended Flint Junior College, later the University of Michigan and then attended and graduated from the DesMoines Still College of Osteopathy and Surgeons. He started his medical practice in 1953 in the Flint General Hospital and was on the staff of Hurley Medical Center, Mclaren Regional Medical Center, Genesee Memorial Hospital, Genesys Health Park. Dr. Evanoff was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, the Sierra Club, the Wilderness Society, and The International Institute. He was the founder of the College of Rheumatology, a past president of the Osteopathic Society of Genesee County, an active volunteer with the Public Health Department working at the free clinics. He also was active with the United Way of Genesee County and a member of the F.E.A.T. and a member of the Flint Golf Club; he also served his country during W.W.II with the U.S. Army. Surviving are three daughters, Stephanie Fohey and husband William of Fenton, Barbara Martinez and husband Andy of Dayton, Ohio and Mary Ann Gisewhite and husband Joe of Flint; son, John Evanoff and wife Pat of Las Vegas, Nevada. Â Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Leigh Anne Potter of Suttons Bay, MI., Jessica Gidday of Denver, Colorado, William Fohey II of Fenton, Stephen Fohey of Fenton, Zoey Gisewhite of Flint; great-granddaughter Abigail Stroh of Suttons Bay. Â Further survivors include a brother, Frank Evanoff of Flint; sister-in-law, Genevieve Evanoff of East Lansing, and a host of many nieces, nephews and cousins. Â Dr. Evanoff was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis in 2004, a daughter, Jo Ann Evanoff and a brother, Michael Evanoff. Services will be 11 AM Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint with The Very Reverend Raphael Biernacki officiating. Â The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 PM Friday, where a Parastas service will be prayed at 7 PM. Â Memorial donations in Dr. Evanoffs name may be made to the Sierra Club or to the International Institute.
