He was a 1964 graduate of Linden High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Hurd August 14, 1965, at the Free Methodist Church in Linden. Doug was very active in the church. He held positions officially, cared for his church family in ministry, and worked behind the scenes to ensure the building was well maintained. He worked with the youth for many years. He was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the golf course with his son, Jeff, father-in-law, Mel, and many friends. He took up hiking later in life and enjoyed walking many local trails and worked his way toward his big trip to the Appalachian Trails with his walking buddy Tim. Doug loved God, Family and the
Tigers. He went to his first game as a young man with his father. And then to countless games with his family, especially his wife Dianne.
He was always willing to help anybody that needed him. He loved his family well. His children and grandchildren and great grandchildren were the loves of his heart.
