Doris Powell

POWELL, Doris Marie McAra - age 89, of Grand Blanc, died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at her residence. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Parish, 11804 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc with Fr. Gary Koenigsknecht celebrant. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Monday and Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Visitation will also be held 10 AM - 11 AM Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Parish or the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Mrs. Powell was born September 30, 1926 in Flint, the daughter of Henry L. and Marie C. (Reimann) McAra. She married Danny Powell in April of 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2014. Mrs. Powell was an avid golfer and member of Warwick Hills Country Club for 58 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and most recently, great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends and loved spending time on Marco Island, FL. She was a member of the Holy Family Altar Society and the Needlework Guild of America. Surviving are: two sons, Jeff Powell and Chip Powell; daughter Nancy and husband John Denne; daughter-in-law, Laurie Powell; eight grandchildren, Michael, Scott, and Ryan Powell, Katie (Nick) Sheeran, Dan and Elizabeth Powell, Ann and John Denne; great-granddaughter. Lucy Sheeran; sister-in-law, Monna McAra; and her much loved dog, Casey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter-in-law, Joan Powell; brother, Judge Harry B.
