Doris Mulanix

MULANIX, Doris Jean (Lockhart) Age 86; of Flint, passed away May 3 , 2017. Funeral services will be held 1:30PM Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd. Holly. Pastor Mark Cox officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to Fenton Adopt-A-Pet. Born May 21, 1930. Doris graduated from Flint Central High School where she met and later married her husband of 66 yrs., the late Robert D. Mulanix. Doris chose to stay home and raise her family, whom she loved dearly, and worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for over 40 years. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening, skiing, and golf. Doris was truly an animal lover at heart. Her house was never without a pet dog, cat or bird. She would take in any animal that needed a home, from a week old kitten left in the outdoor fireplace, the starving stray cat that came to her door or the dog abandoned at the kennel. She was also quite artistic in her own right and had a knack for photography, including a unique collection of barn photos. She was an avid traveler, sightseeing throughout the United States, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. She had many fond memories of travels with her family, sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Jim Steinhoff, and also trips with the Burton Senior Center. Doris is survived by her three daughters, Diane (Ron) Saarela, Elaine Eldred, Teresa (Dave) Heasty; grandchildren, Jennifer (Gary) Williams, Amy Eldred, Nicholas (Celeste) Saarela, Kathryn Heasty, Bryan Heasty ; great grandchildren, Clinton, Conner, Collen, and Lainey; her twin sister, Lois Steinhoff and also several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Robert, Doris is preceded in death by her parents, J. Rolland and Rose Lockhart, her sister, Pearl Craig and her grandson, Aaron Saarela.
