Donna Powell

POWELL, Donna M. Age 85 of Flint, formerly of Alpena died August 12, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 1PM, Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Visitation will be held from 11AM 8PM on Friday, and from 10AM until the time of service Saturday. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 12:30PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or The American Stroke Association. Donna was born April 5, 1930 the daughter of Hakon and Sophia (Mueller) Jensen. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1948 and Central Michigan University in 1951. She married Loren "Larry" W. Powell on December 29, 1951. She worked as a teacher and speech pathologist with Durant Turri Mott Elementary School retiring in 1990. She was a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association, Tri Sigma-Sigma-Sigma Sorority, was an avid supporter of C.M.U., and later was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Alpena. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Donna greatly loved helping people in need. Survived by: children; Craig Powell of GA, Lynn (Phil) Kieliszewski of Alpena, Thane Powell of Grand Blanc, grandchildren; Loren, Catie, Mathew, brother, Lee (Linda) Jensen of FL, sister-in-laws; Mary Kay (Mark) Griswold and Doris Powell, as well as special friend Gerry McQueen. Preceded in death by: husband of 62 years, Larry, parents; Hakon and Sophia, as well as brother-in-law, Dan Powell. Special thanks to the staff at The Oaks at Woodfield, especially Aaron Frey NP.
