Kirkwood, Donald Michal – Age 74, of Fenton, passed away peacefully November 15, 2024. Per Don’s wishes, his body is to be cremated, and his ashes spread in a private ceremony. A Celebration of Life remembering Don will be held April 25th, 2025 with additional details to come (please see announcements via Don’s Facebook). Don was born February 13, 1950 in Flint, Michigan. He and his twin brother David were adopted by his loving parents Lillian and Ellsworth Kirkwood with additional care from his siblings Glenn, Clyde (Bo), Orvel, Volen, and Violet Striler. In the eventual care of his step-father, Ward Morris, Don attended Carman Schools where he made lifelong friends; lettering in three sports and acting as his class vice-president. Always civic minded, Don was a CMU graduate where he studied Business Accounting and participated in demonstrations in opposition of the Vietnam war. After graduating, Don went to work for General Motors in finance at Flint Assembly and eventually retired from Delphi as an IT Cost Accountant. Don lived on Lake Fenton for the majority of his adult life, and loved everything that came with lake life. He enjoyed decades of hosting cookouts and boat-rides for his family and friends, kayaking, windsurfing, and particularly seeing his granddaughter learn to swim. Approaching his seventies, Don let the lakehouse go and began snow-birding, enjoying his winters in Florida. Surviving are: his son, Michal Donovan; his granddaughter, Myles Dee; Sister, Violet (and Robert Stilson); Sisters-in law, Ruth Striler, Clairene Striler, and Debi Kirkwood; Many Nieces and Nephews, Dear Friends: Tim Weeks, Doug & Kathy Trussell, Chris Burhans, John McCormack, Gary Florez, and Bryon Neely. Don will also be dearly missed by his special companion Barb Copi of Ann Arbor, who he spent his final years with. Don is joyfully reunited in the hereafter with his loving parents, brothers, and friends where he will find eternal peace lakeside: hunting, golfing, and watching over his people (and every Lions game). A great guy to everyone he met, Don is loved and missed. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, MI.
In lieu of flowers please send a loved one an “Outta Sight!” or “Super!” in remembrance of Don.
