HALKA, Donald G. -- Age 77, of Mundy Township, died March 3, 2009 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Saturday, March 7 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Pastor Lawrence Gill officiating. Visitation will be 5-9 PM Thursday, 2-9 PM Friday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Swartz Creek Veterans Memorial. Donald was born August 13, 1931 in Swartz Creek the son of John and Josephine (Yelinek) Halka. He had resided in Swartz Creek - Mundy Township his entire life. He was a 1949 graduate of Swartz Creek Schools (Mary Crapo) and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Ella Mae Henry on October 1, 1955 in Mundy Township. He retired from G.M. Fisher Body in skilled trades (Tool and Die.) He was active in township government for 32 years and served 20 years as the Mundy Townhip Supervisor. Surviving are: wife Ella Mae; two children, Lorraine and husband Michael Ahearne of Swartz Creek, Donald John Halka of Davison; two sisters, Marion Horak of Niles, MI, Mildred Brian of Cresson, TX; three grandsons, Canaan Halka, Tyler Halka, Nolan Ahearne; sisters-in-law, Darlene Halka of Swartz Creek, Vera Halka of Owosso; several nieces and nephews.
