DeMOSS, Donald Edward - Age 82, of Swartz Creek, died Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 19, 2019 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, our temporary location at Hill Creek Church, 5363 Hill Rd., Swartz Creek, ( Mundy Township). Pastor Mark Cox officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 3-8 PM at Hill Creek Church. Those desiring may make contributions to Shriner's Children Hospitals. Donald was born February 12, 1937 in Swartz Creek the son of James E. and Lottie E. (Kimmel) DeMoss. He died residing less then 100 yards from where he was born. He liked to say he moved to Rankin once. After High School he joined the U.S. Navy and served at Pearl Harbor and then aboard the USS Cowell DD 547 as PO 2nd Class. In March 1957, he married Merilyn Tilley. They had one daughter, Pamela Marie. Merilyn preceded him in death. In August 1962, he married Janice Kay Rohn. They had son, James Samuel DeMoss and daughter, Mary Kay Dowell. Don was one of the first City Carriers for the Swartz Creek Post Office, retiring after 40 years of service in 1994. He served as Clerk, City Carrier and Rural Carrier. Community Service included the Swartz Creek Jaycee's. He held numerous offices including Local President. He went on to serve the Michigan Jaycee's as District VP, Regional ND, Executive VP, State Chaplain and President of the Michigan Jaycee's. He served on the Swartz Creek Board of Education for six years including two years as President. He also served on the Gaines Township Fire Board for several years. Surviving are: his wife, Janice; 3 children, Pamela (Robert) Stalker of Oscoda, Dr. James DeMoss of Kalamazoo, Mary Kay (Patrick) Dowell of Birch Run; 5 grandchildren, Maggie Stalker of Grand Rapids, Michael DeMoss of Kalamazoo, Matthew DeMoss of Kalamazoo, Heather (Jim) Atkinson of Missouri, Emily Dowell of Mt. Morris; 6 great grandchildren, Jacob, Jace, Vanessa, Gabriel, Daisy, and Naiyah; sister-in-law, Gladys Newman of Saginaw; brothers-in-law, John Mays of Swartz Creek, Delbert Tilley of Rochester, and Walter (Gloria) Rohn of Hemlock; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Robert Stalker and William Dowell; 5 sisters, Daphen (Robert) Burleson, Evelyn (Edward) Cimbalik, Marjorie Klette, Trixie Mays, and Vivian (Ron) Zuercher; sister-in-law, Marion Doherty; and brothers-in-law, John Doherty and Kenneth Newman.
