Donald B. BENTLEY

BENTLEY, Donald B. - age 92, of Swartz Creek, went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2012. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, April 16, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, with Dr. Sanford Good officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Sunday April 15, and from 10 AM until the time of service Monday. If desired, contributions may be made to Hope United Methodist Church or Avalon Hospice. Donald was born on April 22, 1919 in Breckenridge, MI, the son of Henry and Phoebe (Allen) Bentley. He graduated from Flushing High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Charlene Dieck on June 5, 1944. Don earned degrees from Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan and spent much of his educational career at Flint Northern High School as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and principal. He then helped to create the Genesee Area Skills Center and served as its first deputy principal. Don was a member of the former Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Following his retirement, he enjoyed visiting his children, traveling as far as Indonesia. Don was a man of integrity and strong faith. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Charlene; children, Sheryl (Al) Powell of Swartz Creek, Duane (Karen) of Cincinnati, OH, Diane (Sanford) Good of Lititz, PA, Phil (Nancy) of Fayetteville, GA and Janice of Chaing Mai, Thailand; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Dow. Sincere appreciation is given to Jannine Stoddard and the staff of Sugarbush East for their care the last six months.
