AMON, Donald W. - Age 84, of Flint, died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30 PM Monday, April 27, 2009 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Swartz Creek, Fr. Steven Mattson celebrant. Burial immediately following at Sunset Hill Cemetery where military honors will be rendered under the auspices of the Swartz Creek V.F.W. Post #3720. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Saturday from 5-8 PM, Sunday from 12-3 and 5-8 PM and at church Monday from 12:30 PM until time of Mass. A vigil service will be held 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to Boys' Town. Don was born March 11, 1925 in Flint, the son of William G. and Vina (Burtch) Amon. He was a proud veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married Colleen Gibbs August 6, 1948 in Angola, IN. Don owned and operated Corunna Road Hardware for 25 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge #458 F&AM. Don was also was a avid hunter, fisherman and woodcarver extrodinaire. Surviving are: wife, Colleen; 2 sons, Rod and wife Marcia Amon of Swartz Creek and Jake Amon of Marquette; son-in-law, Larry Curtis of Flint Twp.; 3 grandchildren, Lisa and husband Dave Witucki, Kevin Bloss and Krissy Amon; 3 great grandchildren, Chad and Jared Witucki and Logan Bloss; 2 sisters, Wanda and husband Junior Harris of St. Helen and Mary Butler of Saginaw; 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Veselsky of Florida and Ray Willyerd; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Curtis; 2 sisters, Betty Willyerd and Norma Veselsky. The family wishes to thank the E.R. 12th floor and ICU at McLaren Regional Medical Center for their wonderful care of our husband, father and grandpa.
