Dewey Preston Drew

DREW, Dewey Preston - age 83, of Durand, passed away June 3, 2006. Dewey was born February 28, 1923 to Sherman and Mattie (Smith) Drew in Paragould, AR. He retired from Flint Metal Fab. October 1976, after 30 years. Dewey was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and received a bronze star medal for rescuing a fellow comrade while under enemy fire. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and friends and was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved Bluegrass music and played his guitar every chance he got. He was a member of Hopewell General Baptist Church since 1963. Surviving are: his wife, Dorene of 60 years; daughter, Sharon Austin and husband, Bud; son, Greg Drew; six grandchildren, Cary DeVoe, Jamie DeVoe, Kristopher (Jessica) Drew, Greg Austin, Jackie (Eric) Manninen, Mike (Niki) Dantzer; nine great-grandchildren, Danielle DeVoe, Chloe Rogers, Jelaina & Tori Drew, Emily, Hailey, Maila, Tara and Logan Manninen; nephew, Euwell Horn and wife, Dora. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Sherman & Mattie Drew; daughter, Marsha; sister, Alva Horne; nephew, Kenneth Horne. We would like to thank the Owosso Memorial Hospice for their wonderful care of Dad during his stay there. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell General Baptist Church roofing fund. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, June 5, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint.
