Dennis Patrick Viele of Swartz Creek, MI, age 81, passed away on May 30, 2022, at home with his family by his side. Denny was born on March 5, 1941, the son of Gary B. and Hazel M. (Henning) Viele in Flint, Michigan. He was a 3 sport varsity athlete and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Flint, MI in 1959. Denny served in the Michigan National Guard for 2.5 years before receiving a medical discharge. He worked for Grand Trunk, Chessie System & CSX Railroads for 44 years as a brakeman and conductor.
Denny and Delores Ranger were married on April 23, 1966, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint, MI. Denny and Delores enjoyed spending winters in Indian Harbor Beach, FL and summers at their homes in Swartz Creek and National City. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan and a frequent spectator at his grand children’s sporting events. He was a man of few words, but a great listener. Once retired, he enjoyed chatting daily with his coffee group. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Swartz Creek for 45 Years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Delores (Ranger) Viele of Swartz Creek; Son, Dennis (Heather) Viele of Byron, MI; their five children, Chase, Parker, Camryn, Lauren and Riley; Son, David (Susan) Viele of Fishers, IN; their five children, Kendall, Michael, Ryan, Nicholas and Jordan; brother Garry (Nancy) Viele of Rankin, MI; Jill Chaulklin of Davison, MI; nephew’s Eric (Julie) Viele and Brian O’Leary; nieces Rachel Viele and Thanya (Steve) Rhoades.
He was preceded in death by his Father Gary B. Viele; Mother Hazel M. (Henning) Viele; Brother Terry “Tom” Viele; Foster-brother Anthony L. “Tony” Chaulklin; Father-in-law Arthur D. Ranger; Mother-in-law Florence M. (Goupil) Ranger; Sister-in-law Mary Ann (Gresock) Viele.
The family will receive visitors 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Home, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. A private Mass of Christian Burial will follow at a later date.
