Dennis Karas

KARAS, Dennis C. - Age 76, of Grand Blanc, died Friday, August 19, 2016. Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Tuesday, August 23 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc Township. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be held 3 - 8 PM Sunday and Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Intrepid Fallen Hero's Fund, Wounded Warriors Project, or any other veteran program to help disabled veterans. Dennis was born April 13, 1940 in Flint, the son of George and Helen Jean (Price) Karas. He attended K-8 at Bendle Public Schools and 9-12 at Grand Blanc High School. Dennis and his brother Jim were the first two Eagle Scout Brothers in Grand Blanc. Dennis was on staff at Camp Tapico in 1955. He was also a member of the undefeated 1956 and 1957 Grand Blanc High School county champion football teams. Dennis served on the Class of '58 Reunion Committee for over 50 years. Dennis was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Grand Blanc American Legion. Dennis attended college at Hillsdale and Michigan State University, and was a member of Delta Tau Delta. After his time in the service, he went on to Detroit College of Law and practiced law in Genesee County for over 40 years, starting out at the prosecutor's office. Dennis was an avid hunter and trapper. He was a life member of National Trappers Association, Michigan Trappers Association and Grand Blanc Sportsmen's Club. He was also a member of MUCC, Wisconsin Trapper Association and U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance. Dennis and several other trappers represented the National Trappers Association in a trappers exchange in Russia and Siberia in 1991. This group was some of the first Americans in Russia after the coup. Dennis and his wife raised Clydesdale horses for over 25 years. They showed them in competitions, broke them to harness, and hobby farmed with them. They entered them in many parades, as well as brought Santa Claus in to Goodrich and Grand Blanc over the years. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Claudia; daughter, Michelle K. Karas; sons, Robert C. (Nee) Karas M.D. and Benjamin D. (Marla) Karas; grandchildren, Nate, Isaac, Brian, Aster, Alex (English) and Leah (Ben); brother, George H. Karas (Dan); special nephews and nieces, Stephen, Jimmy, Scott, Ryan, Marie and Helen; special cousins, Bill Karas and sister Dawn, Greg and John Hayes, Bruce and Arnold Price, Col. Richard Gage and sister Wanda. He is also survived by Canadian fishing buddy, Attorney James Fox, trapping buddies, Leo Revolt and Brian Munger, deer hunting partner, Randy LaFave; longtime family friend Dennis Hipps. Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henning and Edmere Klitten; his parents, George and Jean (Price) Karas; brother, Jim; special aunts and uncles, Bill and Dee Karas, Virgil and Leola Price, and Linoel Price. Special thanks to Dr. Jim Walker and his father, including staff for medical help over 61 years.
