HINTZ, Dennis Mitchell "Putz" - Age 74, of Fenton, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday, October 1, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fenton. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass. Those desiring may make contributions to the St. John Chapel Restoration.
Dennis was born March 16, 1948 in Flint, the son of Leon and Peggy (Osmond) Hintz. He was a 1966 graduate of Fenton High School. He went on to obtain his Commercial Arts Degree from Ferris State University. He married his long time partner, Mary Beth (Baker) Bullen on February 14, 2021.
Friends lovingly gave him the nickname "Putz". He started a stage hand apprenticeship in 1966. He spent over 55 years in the trade. He traveled the country setting up for Buick cars shows, music venues, and Broadway shows.
He is a plank owner of the USS Blakely (DE 1072) commissioned July 18, 1970. He served on the USS Richmond K Turner; while he asked to serve in Alaska he spent his time cruising the Atlantic and Carribean. His job during his time in the Navy was a radarman operations specialist. In training, he was in the top of his class and received top security clearance.
He held a special place in his heart for Whiting Auditorium in Flint, where he was house carpenter and electrician. He was involved in the renovation in 1999, where he soared high as a rigger. He was a proud member of IATSE Local 201 where he held a gold card for 50 years of service.
He loved the Saginaw Bay where he enjoyed walleye and perch fishing. Every November 15th he could be found at his cabin near Roscommon deer hunting. He was a proud member of BC's Hunt Club for 40 years, and of the fraternity of F.U.C.K. (Fraternal Union of Casual Knights). In his lifetime he owned six English Springer's and adored the breed.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; Lab Darla and Springer Murphy; Mary's children, Maggie Clement and Beth (Steve) Krause; Mary's grandchildren, Kara (Garrett) Pillow, Grant Krause, Kelsey (Luke) Wiles, and Bailey Clement; great grandsons, Andersen and Bransen Pillow; brother-in-law, Carroll G. (Kimberly Roberson) Baker; sister-in-law, Cheryl Perkins; sisters, Caryn (Jim) Datson and Margaret (Gary) King; brother, Mike (Teri) Hintz; dear brother-in-law, John (Stephanie) Rice; step children, Marcia Brown and Scott Graham; and nieces, Ame (Eric) Schaefges, Kristin (Todd) Peloso; nephews, Jonathan and Michael King; and grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Louetta; his parents, Leon and Peggy (Osmond) Hintz; granddaughter, Jordan; and many aunts and uncles.
