Dennis Butler

BUTLER, Dennis Michael -- Age 77, of Flushing, passed away April 21, 2021. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 PM Tuesday, April 27 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 E. Bristol Rd., Burton with celebrant Fr. Robert McGraw. Visitation will be held 4 - 8PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek. A VFW/AMVETS Honor Guard service will be held 7 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Visitation from 11:30AM until time of Mass at the church on Tuesday. Dennis was born October 9, 1943 in Flint, the son of James Michael and Barbara Jean (Holmes) Butler. He married Bethany (Potter) Butler on June 11, 1966. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1961-1967.  He was employed by Buick Motor Division in New Car Shipping with 35 years of service retiring in 1999. He was an a member of Holy Redeemer and Past President of the Holy Redeemer Men's Club.

Denny was a very active member of VFW/AMVETS Honor Guard Post 3720. He was a past Post Commander for AMVETS Post 3720 and past AMVETS District 3 Commander.  He had served as the National Inspector General for the AMVETS and State Commander in 2005-2006.  He was honored with the AMVETS Commander of the Year Award.  He was a member of the American Legion #249 Swartz Creek.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bethany of Flushing; sons, Michael Butler of Canadian, Texas, Matthew (Mary) Butler of Greenville, Michigan; grandchildren, Noah, Sydney, Sarah, and Haley; and his brother-in-law, Rich (Janet) Potter of Grand Rapids.
