ALLEN, Dennis Dean  Age 57, long time Flint area businessman and former Swartz Creek Mayor, died Monday, May 10, 2004 at Genesys Health Park following a long illness. Services will be held 6:30 PM Friday, May 14, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, Swartz Creek with Fr. Roy Horning officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM  12 PM and 3 PM until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Swartz Creek Hometown Days Committee or the American Diabetes Association. Mr. Allen was born November 9, 1946 in Flint, the son of Arthur and Betty (VanWoert) Allen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany from 1966-1968. Mr. Allen owned Dennis Allen Process Serving and served as director of the Genesee County Sheriffs Department Civil Division for 12 years. Over the past three decades he has owned and operated several businesses including, Sebastians Pizza, Genesee County Courier Service, Dennys Donuts, Your Answering Service and Michigan Championship Wrestling, where he brought longtime wrestling heroes to the area. He had a passion for wrestling and was the Commissioner for All World Wrestling League (AWWL) in Lansing. The Swartz Creek Community meant a lot to Mr. Allen, who resided there since 1964. He holds the record for the longest serving City Councilman in Swartz Creeks history, serving form 1982-2002. He only missed one meeting during his first 17 years on the council. He was Mayor Pro-Tem from 1984-1996 and Mayor from 1996-2002. Dennis was instrumental in the development of Miller Road, the start of Sports Creek Raceway, the construction of a New City Hall in Swartz Creek and the creation of the original Swartz Creek Hometown Days Festival in 1984. He always kept in mind the City Slogan of Where town & country meet hands. Mr. Allen served on Flint Area Narcotics Group Executive Board, Swartz Creek Fire Board for 5 years, Swartz Creek Planning Commission for 4 years, Genesee County Small Cities and Villages Association, Community Aided Management of Emergency Operations, Genesee Auto-Theft Investigation Network. Surviving are: children, Jason Allen and fiancâ?se, Stephanie Locascio of Swartz Creek, Charissa and husband, Scott Hope of Flushing; three grandchildren, Dylan, Devin and Delaney; mother, Betty Tucker; brother, Ken Allen and wife, Jo, all of Durand; special friend, Debbie Bombe of Flint; many other relatives and close friends.
