HUTCHINSON, Debra Sue - Sunrise: January 26, 1955 Sunset: October 9, 2018. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd. Flint with a dinner following. Visitation will be 11 AM - 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be held 12 PM Monday, October 22, 2018 at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Debra Sue Sasser, Hanson, Hutchinson was born January 26, 1955 in Pontiac, MI to James P. Sasser and Phyllis Jessie Sasser. Debra went to Lapeer High School, graduating in the class of 1973. Ensuing high school, she then continued her studies at Baker College, aiming to be a medical assistant, which she completed and received her certificate. While pursuing a job as a medical assistant, she further advanced her education earning another degree in the business field and later on opening her own business (Lapeer Medical Billing) where she did the medical billing for doctors offices. Being a driven, compassionate and intelligent woman she thrived even further going back to college to obtain yet another degree. This one was her true calling. She was such a compassionate person, getting her Bachelor's in Arts - specializing in social work was inevitable. She soon realized that she loved being a social worker, so she attended MSU (Michigan State University) to get her doctorate (PhD) in Social Work. She worked for many years at LAAN (Lansing Area Aids Network) until the day she could no longer work due to illness. Debra has many passions, those which include: reading, camping, rock picking, learning, being involved in the political news, educating herself and building her concrete opinions, being by the water and most of all, Debra cherished the moments spent with her family. Debra Hutchinson leaves to cherish her memories: son, James L. Hanson; daughter, Lisa (Asia) Hanson; daughter, Sarah J. Hanson; four grandchildren, Sierra McElroy, Keith Sibley, Marquan Collins, Kierra Brown; three great-grandchildren, Onnisty Weaver, Kel'Asiah Sibley, Savior Weaver; step-father, Alvic Scarberry; two brothers, Jim Sasser and John Sasser; two sisters, Peggy (Sasser) Vren, Jodi (Sasser) Williams; many aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews as well as cousins. Debra Hutchinson was preceded in death by: her late husband and father of her three children, James H. Hanson; granddaughter, Makala Hanson; father. James P. Sasser; mother, Phyllis (Sasser) Scarberry; sister, Jennifer Sasser; brothers, Jesse Sasser, Steve Sasser and Dee Sasser. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
