Deborah M. King, 67, of Linden MI, died at her family’s home in Flushing MI on October 11th, 2020. She was born in Detroit, MI on August 20th, 1953 to Joseph and Gertrude Stchur as the oldest of four children. She met the love of her life, Larry, in 1968 in Livonia MI. They were married on October 18th, 1974 and spent over 48 wonderful years together until he passed in 2017. Now it is time for them to finally be reunited and at peace.
After high school, Debi made her living as a dental assistant and also taught dental assisting for various different adult education programs around the flint area. She always enjoyed visiting schools during dental weeks and helping teach children about the importance of dental hygiene.
Her children were born in 1978 (Peter) and 1980 (Kendra) and were were the world to her and Larry. In them, she instilled her love of cooking, gardening, crafting, and her do-it-yourself mentality and her fantastic sense of humor. They also took away the greatest lesson of respect and love for their friends and spouses from watching her and Larry together. Her time spent with her grandson, Elliott, brought her so much joy. They shared a special connection and created wonderful memories whenever they were together.
Debi was an avid gardener, she called weeding her gardens her “therapy”. She loved taking care of her flowers and had a knack for creating the most beautiful landscaping around her home. She also loved collecting rocks whenever she was vacationing around the shores of Michigan. Many family and friends are left with rock lamps that she and Larry would make together from their rock collecting adventures. Truthfully, there wasn’t a craft or creative project around that she couldn’t master. She created art out of just about everything she touched.
After the kids moved out, Larry and Debi built their dream home on a lake. Any that know them were not surprised to learn they actually designed and built the house themselves, with a little help from their kids. Living on the lake was the perfect lifestyle for them to enjoy what they loved best, being outdoors and being with each other. Debi was the ultimate hostess and had a knack for making everyone that stepped through their doors feel at home.
Most of all, Debi will be remembered by all for her generosity, her energy, her can-do attitude, her creativeness, her kindness and her willingness to help anyone that she could. She loved and was loved by her family and friends and will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her children Peter(Kelly) King and Kendra(John) Schroeder, grandson Elliott, siblings Eric(Cheryl) Stchur and Joe(Mary) Stchur, sibling-in-laws Kathi(Mike) Prentice and Gary(Linda) King, and many cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Larry King, parents Joe and Trudy Stchur, in-laws Ray and Cathy King and brother David Stchur.
Per Debi’s final wishes, there will not be an official memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (http://giftfunds.stjude.org/Debi_King_Memorial).
