Deacon Currie Thomas Cormier

CORMIER, Deacon Currie Thomas- Age 70, of Byron, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at his residence.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2007 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide Street, Fenton.  Bishop Carl F. Mengeling celebrant. Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Gaines. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-9PM Thursday, with a Rosary prayed at 7PM followed by a Knights of Columbus presentation, and 2-4PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Then Deacon Cormier will lie in state from 6-9PM  Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7PM that evening. Visitation will also be held 10AM Saturday until time of Mass.  Those desiring may make contributions to the Deacon Currie T. Cormier Memorial Fund.  Deacon Currie was born September 8, 1936 in Hazel Park, the son of Alfred J. and May H. (Thibodeau) Cormier.  He married Donna Mae Timms May 3, 1958 at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Detroit. He had resided in Byron since 1970 coming from Hazel Park. He retired from Ameritech in 1992 with 37 years of service.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gaines and was ordained for service to the Diocese of Lansing June 30, 1990 as Deacon.  He had served as chaplain at U of M Hospital, Ann Arbor and was a volunteer for Avalon Hospice for 18 years.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12186 in Gaines, the 4th Degree Assembly #2031 in Fenton and the Open Gate Garden Club.  Surviving are: wife, Donna Mae; 5 children, Renee'(Glenn) Cox of Arkansas, Nanette (Denny) Cecil of Byron, Shawn (Laurie) Cormier of Durand, Kurt (Yvette) Cormier of Sanford, Currie II (Tammie) Cormier of Grayling; 15 grandchildren, Joshua (Jamie), Rachel (Travis), Tiffany (Brian), Lindsey (Patrick), Dennis (Dana), Stacie (Scott), Neil, Brian, Scott, Michael, Shawn II, Kenaniah, Josiah, Annelissa, Bacilia; 4 great granchildren, Abby, Madelyn, Trenton, Weston; 2 brothers, Armand (Arlene) Cormier of Byron, Wally (Doris) Cormier of Hazel Park; father-in-law, Thomas A. Timms of Byron; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Perris Cormier; grandson, Logan; sister, Darlene Cagle; brother, Ralph Cormier; mother-in-law, Helen Timms.  Friends may share their online condolence or post a tribute at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
