David Yates

YATES, David Lynn -- Age 60, of Durand, died December 25, 2014. Services will be held 4 PM Friday, January 9, 2015 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd. Swartz Creek. Visitation will be 2 PM - 4 PM on Friday January 9. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association. David was born February 19, 1954 in Flint the son of Joseph Wade Yates Sr. and Virginia Lee (Hodge) Yates. David was a 1972 graduate of Swartz Creek High School and attended Mott Community College and University of Michigan, Flint. He worked at Discount Tire Co. in Flint, and Dallas, TX. for many years. More recently, Dave worked for James Lumber, Kroger, and was currently employed at Midwest Bus in Owosso. His passions included hockey, baseball, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed his beloved Red Wings and Tigers. Dave played competitive hockey, and officiated youth and adult hockey throughout his life. Dave will be sadly missed by: 4 sisters, Donna (Gail) (&B.J.) Baker of Lawton, OK, Julie Bruce of Pheonix, AZ, Martha Rusinko (&Richard) of Flushing, Susan (&Michael) Shay ) of Durand; brother in law, Gregg Rusinko of Durand; loving nieces and nephews, Kellie (Yates), Jenny Ellis, Kelsey Ellis, Ryan Bruce (&Yuki), Aaron (&Sara) Bruce, Alexandra Bruce, Katie & Abby Rusinko, Justin (&Tara) Shay, Jacob Shay, Tanner (&Mollie) Shay; several great-nieces and great-nephews; several adored aunts, uncles and cousins and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: Joseph & Virginia Yates, brother, Joseph Jr., and nephew, Robby Ellis. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
