David Rakes

RAKES, David Allen - Age 74, of Clio, died Saturday, February 26, 2022.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (A live stream of the service will be available on David's obituary at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com).  Burial in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 PM.  Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.

David was born February 22, 1948 in Davy, WV, the son of Ira and Hattie (Williams) Rakes.  He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army.  He married Mary Lou Marchand March 28, 1970 in Lebanon, VA.  He had resided in Clio for the past 21 years coming from Hazel Park. David Retired from GM Livonia BOC after 25 years of service.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working around in his garage, but most of all family gathering with lots of food.

Surviving are: his wife, Mary Lou; sons, David A. Rakes, Jr. and wife Taracina of Riley and Raymond Ira Rakes and wife Sonda of Leonard; grandchildren, Kailee Rose and Rayna Rakes both of Riley and Ryan Rakes of Leonard; brother, John Wesley Rakes and wife Janice of South Lyon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and Eddie Rakes; and sisters, Juanita Stanley, Louise Stoots, and Pauline Hill.  Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
