David T. “Terry” Phillips
Phillips, David Terence 4/9/1948 - 4/9/2023 of Grand Blanc, MI, and formerly of Flint, MI, died on his 75th birthday, Easter Sunday, April 9th. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated May 20th with visitation at 10am before the 11am service at St. Mark’ Catholic Church in Goodrich. A light lunch will follow. Cremation has taken place, and internment of his ashes will take place this summer in Big Rapids.
Dave was “Michigan Born” at the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, on April 9th, 1948, the son of Flint pediatrician Dr. Robert W. "Sam" Phillips and Kathleen N. Phillips. Dave graduated from Flint Central High School in 1967, where he served as team manager for Flint Central's football team. Dave loved science and astronomy classes.
Dave retired from General Motors in 2006 dedicating 30 years at several plants including Chevy in the Hole and Saginaw Steering Gear. He loved everything Maize and Blue, and even put a yellow stripe with a block M on both sides of his SUV. He loved watching movies and television, especially World War II movies.
While Dave was known by many as “Dave,” he will always be lovingly known as “Uncle Terry” by his many nieces and nephews. Uncle Terry’s life was surrounded by the love of his sisters and brothers and dedicated to his many nieces and nephews. Terry was celebrated for his outgoing and uninhibited conversation style. Known as “The Most Quoted Person” in the family, his memory will forever live on in the family with every “Whatever, Fella” and “That thing is shot” comment casually dropped into conversations with those that knew him best. While he may have bestowed his unsolicited opinion or shed light on a personal past embarrassment of people, you always knew it came from a place of connectedness and the love he had for you.
Dave is survived by his brother, Tim Phillips; three sisters, Mary (Chuck) Hodson, Jessica Kingsbury (Roger) Van Noord, Julia (Dan) Gidcumb, several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews and even great-great-nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Phillips, sister Ann (Doug) Graham and brother Sam (Bonnie) Phillips. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He was always in awe of the children who overcome such obstacles.
