David Lee Mathis, Sr.

MATHIS, David Lee Sr. - Age 79, of Fenton, passed away July 3, 2023 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Friday and from 10AM until the time of service Saturday. Those desiring may make contributions to Adopt-A-Pet of Fenton in honor of David's beloved rescue dog, Bailey. David was born June 17, 1944 in Corinth, MS the first of seven children to Zelford and Lorena Moheese (Horton) Mathis. He retired from General Motors (Buick City) after many years of service. Dave was a longtime member of the Fenton Moose Lodge. When something was broken, people came to Dave. He had every tool you could imagine and could fix anything. He was always working and enjoyed opening up his barn to help on car and boat repairs. His greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Bonnie; children, Dawn (Ryan) Volz and Debra Dodd-Ignash, David Lee (Valerie) Mathis Jr., Kelly Mathis, ; grandchildren, Brendan, Morgan and Madison Ignash, Danika and Malina Volz, Josie (David) Bliss, Joseph (Lauren) Volz, David Mathis, Kasey Mathis, Joseph Simpson and John Simpson; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Ted (Gail) Mathis, Don (Colleen) Mathis, Jackie (Dick) Trask, Randy Mathis, Glenda (Loren) Brunger and Roger Mathis; special brother-in-law, Al (Joyce) Lifsey; sister-in-law, Beverly Murphy; many nieces, nephews and dear friends, including his Cases Island Family and Moose Euchre Family.
