BERENT, David A. - Age 77, of Waterford, formerly of Fenton and Flint, passed away, Tuesday July 18, 2023. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, with a rosary at 6:00 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton; and 10:00am - 11:00 am Saturday at the church followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide Street, Fenton with Fr. Robert Copeland as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David's memory would be appreciated to St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank at St. John Catholic Church, Fenton.
David was born December 30, 1945 in Flint, the son of Jacob and Ellen (McCann) Berent. He married Christina A. Kusmider at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Flint on May 26, 1978. David graduated from St. Mary Catholic High School in Flint. He later graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor's degree and later from E.M.U. with his Master's and Specialist degrees. David served as a Special Education Teacher and Consultant with the Flint Community Schools for 37 years, retiring in 2005. He was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton; a co-leader of St. Vincent De Paul Food Bank at St. John. David also volunteered at the North End Soup Kitchen and Baldwin Center in Pontiac. David simply loved helping people and was so generous with his time and talents! He also loved building and doing exceptional home projects and was known as "Dave of all trades". He enjoyed lake life, pontoon rides, fishing with his grandchildren, and wintering in Anna Maria Island, FL.
Surviving are: his beloved wife of 45 years, Christina; children, Terese (Michael) McDermott, Thaddeus (Jamie) Berent, Rachel (Jeff) Elmore; grandchildren, Molly, Quinn, Issac, Malachi (also his Godson), Peter, Titus, Jude, Will, Makayla, Landon; brother, Joe (Lesle) Berent; sister-in-law, Mary Berent; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tom Berent and niece, Sue Berent. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
