FOXWORTHY, Darwin Kendall - Age 70, of Linden, died May 2, 2012. In his own words..... Beloved husband of Kay Joanne, loving father of Amy (Phil) Holdcraft, David (Heidi), and Julie (Chris) Trevas. Dearest grandfather of Kyle, Kimberly, Nathan, Christian, Mary, Heather, Jack, Evie and Spencer. Dear brother of Frances Elliott. Dear former husband of Geraldine. Dear uncle of Brian, Jeffery and Rebecca. Loving son of Marion Orville and Doris Elizabeth, deceased parents from Sedalia, MO. Survived by several loving cousins and friends also from Sedalia. Lifetime resident of his beloved state of Michigan, having lived in Brightmoor and Grandmont in Northwest Detroit, Canton, Northville, Rochester and Farmington Hills before retiring to Linden. Graduated from Wayne State University in 1963. Served in the U.S. Army in Germany during 1964 to 1966 as the Chief-of-Section of Computerized Nuclear Fire Delivery, 92d Arty, 42d Group, receiving a 7th Army commendation for Meritorious Service. Spent from 1961 through 2003 in the study and application of Information Technology. Worked at the City of Detroit, Detroit Police Headquarters, Burroughs World Headquarters and Wayne County DIT Departments serving as Applications Supervisor and several years as an Independent Consultant. Was always proud of being able to begin his career during the actual birth of IT as a profession, while taking the very first classes offered at WSU in 1961. Was very active in the Missouri Synod Lutheran and United Methodist churches. Served in positions as Building Chairman, Director of the Congregation, Director of the Board of Lay Ministry, Delegate to the Lutheran High School Association and Chairman of several other Boards. In recent years delighted in helping senior citizens, maintaining a regular ministry of hospital and nursing home visitations and beginning a driving assistance for seniors: "Miles for Christ". Hobbies through the years included extended studies of the Holocaust, the American Civil War and his lifelong interest in American politics, to which he enjoyed writing satire and editorials. He was highly honored when selected to participate in the National Madit-II Heart Study, where he was a surviving heart failure patient at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor since 1991. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel from 1-4 & 6-9 PM Friday. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Linden United Methodist Church, 201 S. Bridge St., Linden. Rev. Margo Kivisto will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Linden United Methodist Church.
