The family of Daniel L. Groleau, age 81, announce his passing on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Daniel was born in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the back of his parents' store on Feb 25, 1942. He was the fifth child of Wilbur Groleau and Lassie Foye Groleau McLeod. He grew up in Berkley, Michigan, and graduated from high school in 1959. Dan completed his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at age 58. As an entrepreneur, Dan joined forces with his brothers as the Vice President of Groleau Brothers Construction Company in Commerce Township for the next 30 years. Groleau Brothers created roadways for much of the growing Oakland County. In the following 30 years, Dan bought and sold residential and industrial/commercial real estate. He owned several small businesses, building residential homes and importing wines. He was still working every day into his 80th year.
Dan married Francine Potter on April 7, 1969, after a chance meeting at the top of a ski hill. Together, they loved spending time at “The Shack,” hosting holiday parties, vacationing with their best friends, attending their grandchildren’s athletic events, concerts and horse shows, and being with family. He will be remembered for being generous with this time, love and support.
Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Francine (Potter), who died in 2019 after battling cancer. Dan is survived by his brother Wayne (Marty), and sister Karen Julien; in-laws Julie/Todd Bather and Frank Potter; his children Brandon (Christina) Groleau, Jennifer (Matthew) Coon and Carrie (John) Jacobs. Our amazing Grandpa leaves behind grandchildren Amanda (Mack) Kirkpatrick, Ryan Groleau, Analise and Julienne Coon, and Kate and Emily Jacobs. He was a favorite “Uncle Danny” to so many nieces and nephews.
Daniel’s family will hold a luncheon to celebrate his life in the coming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in Dan’s name to The Hundred Club of Genesee, PO Box 563 Grand Blanc, MI 48480.
