Dallas Marx marched to the beat of his own drum. With a personality befitting his name, he was unique and bold and a little bit wild – like a cowboy who traded in his hat and horse for long hair and a four-wheeler. A true one-of-a-kind who passed away at his home the morning of November 16, 2022. He was 56 and would like everyone to know he was surprised he lasted that long.
To have met Dallas is to have known a true character. He had stories for days, and while their authenticity could be called into question, the ones that sounded the most made up were almost certainly true. He was what you’d call a “good and funny dude,” who loved all things outdoors. He especially loved doing those things with family and friends.
Dallas Allen Marx was born to Theodore Alphonso Marx and Donna May Marx in Flint on June 28, 1966. He met Susannah Walling in 1996 who he would fall in love with, marry, and start a family – not necessarily in that order. He spent his early adult years working as a mechanic and in construction until an accident permanently injured him. He would claim it also derailed what could have been a promising modeling career.
From there, he spent most of his time doing what he loved – hunting, fishing, camping, and tinkering around with this and that. He helped loved ones with projects, sat by fires, and went on long drives with his wife and kids. He was also renowned for his gardening abilities and started growing and using his own “oregano” long before “oregano” was ever legal in Michigan. He liked to say that his body had adapted to all the smoking, caffeine, candy, and fast food and that healthy things like drinking water or eating salad were actually bad for him.
He loved funny YouTube videos and conspiracy theories and was the sort of person you’d go to when you needed something because he’d say, “I’ve got a guy for that.” Especially if “that” was the sort of thing you’d want done on the down low.
But of all those things, most of all Dallas was a husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by so many.
He is survived by his wife, Susannah; son, Allen Marx (girlfriend, Novi); daughter, Daphen Marx; and granddaughter Hailey Marx.
He is also survived by his sister, Dawn Walker, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother. In lieu of flowers, Dallas would find it hilarious if you could start a rumor, he faked his own death and moved to Belize where he just smokes oregano and hangs out with Tupac all day.
The family will receive guests from 4 – 8 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Sharp Funeral Homes – Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Michigan. Per his wishes, Dallas will be cremated following his visitation and a celebration of his life will be announced and held at a future date. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
