Kildee, D. Jack of Flushing, formerly of Flint, age 85, died on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. His request for cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance will be held 7:00 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-9 PM and Thursday from 1-9 PM. A military graveside service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, December 18, 2015 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly. Jack was born in Flint, Mich., on Nov. 24, 1930, son of the late Norma (Ullmer) and Timothy Kildee. He was a member of St. Robert's Church in Flushing. He married Margaret I. Maxwell on June 25, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Flint, where he also graduated and was baptized and confirmed. Jack joined the U.S. Navy in September 1950, and served four years aboard the USS Hambleton DMS 20, a Destroyer Minesweeper. He was a member of the USS Hambleton Association, the Naval Minewarfare Association, American Legion Post 283 and the Knights of Columbus Council 695 in Flint. Jack also was a member of SALT (Seniors and Law Together) in Flushing. In addition, Jack served on the Flint Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals for 20 years, was awarded the key to the city by Mayor James Rutherford, and was an active member of the Bishop Airport Authority Board of Appeals. He worked in the electrical supply business for 46 years, retiring in 2001. Jack enjoyed the outdoors, and instilled a love for nature and camping in his family by taking them across the country in the family travel trailer. Jack also enjoyed politics, and was involved in many political campaigns throughout his entire life. Jack is survived by his wife, Margaret, and six children, Michael (Sarah) of Swartz Creek, Daniel (Jennifer) of Flushing, Maureen (Stephen) of Flint, Jacqueline (John) of Grand Blanc, Tim of Mt. Morris, and Bridget (Daithi) of Dublin, Ireland. He was the proud grandfather of 22, teaching each one of them to spell rhinoceros. He was the great-grandfather of twelve. In addition, Jack is survived by his sister June Crockett, brother Dale E. (Gayle) Kildee, sister-in-law Berneda Weddington, sisters-in-law Evelyn Murphy and Glenna Maxwell, and brother-in-law Edward (Jill) Maxwell. Jack had many nieces and nephews, and close friends from St. Mary's Class of '49 (the '49ers). He was preceded in death by his parents, baby daughter Colleen Marie, brother Kenneth R. Kildee, sister Vickie McColley, great-granddaughter, Addison Erin Waggoner, mother and father-in-law, Millie and Jack Maxwell and brothers-in-law Howard McColley, Arthur Maxwell and John Murphy. The family would like to share a special thank you to Cindy, Mary and Cecilia from Heartland Hospice for their loving care.
