DEFER, Cynthia Carol  Age 50, of Durand died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at her sons residence in Swartz Creek after a battle with cancer. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, November 13, 2003 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr., Durand with Fr. Robert McKeon celebrant. Interment will be held 11 AM Friday at St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Monday and Tuesday and 12-3 and 5-9 PM Wednesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A scripture service will be held 6 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Cynthia was born September 1, 1953 in Detroit, the daughter of Robert Irving and Dorothy (Magreta) LaFortune. She married John Hamby and he preceded her in death in 1974, she then married Daniel DeFer. Cynthia was employed at Ryans Steakhouse for 12 years as a hostess. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand. Cynthia was a friend to all and enemy to none. Her family was the world to her. Cynthia loved life and was always positive until the day she died with the love and support from her family and friends. Surviving are: son, Paul Hamby and fiancâ?se, Jamie of Swartz Creek; daughter, Rachel DeFer of Swartz Creek; two grandchildren, Avery and Brice and one on the way, Faith Cynthia Hamby; three brothers, Robert LaFortune of Garden City, Dennis LaFortune of Anaheim, CA, Jerome LaFortune of Lincoln Park; sister, Diane Marrel of Salem, OR; many close nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
