Constance Shippy

SHIPPY, Constance Elaine "Connie" - Age 69, of Flushing, entered eternal life on November 16, 2017. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing. Father Gordon Reigle officiating. Burial to follow in Flushing cemetery, Flushing. Visitation will be held 3PM-7PM Monday and 1PM-8PM Tuesday with a rosary being prayed at 7PM and a Divine Mercy Chaplet being prayed at 7:30PM on Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Religious Education CGS program, Thomas Smith Memorial Foundation (teen heart screening), or the Detroit Model Railroad Club of Holly, MI. Connie was born August 25, 1948 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Bryon R. and Joyce E. (Peppler) Lovejoy. She was the eldest of the three daughters in that household. Connie lived the typical 1950's childhood. In 1964, she joined the International Order of Job's Daughters Bethel No.4. Connie joined OES No. 138 and LOSNA No. 28, while serving as Honored Queen of Bethel No. 4, from January to June of 1967. Connie learned social graces and made many friendships belonging to those organizations. She began working at Citizens Bank as a co-op student in December of 1965. She graduated from Southwestern High School, June 1966, and began full-time employment at CB starting in the Charge-O-Matic Department as a Customer Service Clerk. Much of her career she served, in the branch system, as a Bank Teller and Teller Trainer. Connie retired in 2004 as a Corporate Service Trainer from Main Office. Richard A. (Dick) Shippy and Connie met the summer of 1967. Like Cinderella, Connie met her Prince Charming at a dance. They met at a GMI dance and were married in Flint, August 3, 1968 (a little over a year after they first danced together). Dick remained her "Rock", best friend and loving spouse throughout the years. The couple moved to Flushing in the spring of 1969. They become parents of two cherished children, Richard R. (Rick) and Roxanne R. (Shippy) Nicholas. Becoming a wife and a mother were her proudest achievements. She adored being a grandparent, immeasurably. Faith in God, trust in Jesus, her marriage to Dick, being mother to their two children, and being their four grandchildren's "Gramma" formed the nucleus of her life. Connie and her family shared many exciting adventures and they always stood by one another during life's challenges. Connie was blessed with many wonderful friends. She thanked God daily for each friendship. May they all receive rich blessings for their devotion and acts of kindness. Her family and friends were extremely supportive during her cancer journey, for which she will remain eternally grateful. Her fervent hope was that she gave others the same depth of love that she received! Even though Connie served in two other faith traditions, she knew that joining the Catholic Church in 1998 was when she truly began her journey as a child of God. Connie felt truly honored and blessed to have her voice used, as God's instrument, when serving as a lecture. To touch people's hearts, with God's message of love and mercy, was an awesome responsibility. She was humbled to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, also. One of the greatest pleasures was working in the Atrium, in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, at St. Robert Parish. Passing on the faith and sharing in a child's discovery of God touched her profoundly. Survivors are husband Dick, children Rick (Roxanne Koller-Shippy) and Roxanne (Shippy) Nicholas (both women share the same 1st name), four beloved grandchildren: Skyler E. and Chance CN. Shippy, Chloe M. and Carly R. Nicholas. Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law (sisters married brothers) Linda and Jim Desrochers, Cheryl and Bill Desrochers, brother-in-law Lonny Shippy, God-daughter Emily Anger, and God-son Jacob Desrochers, Aunt Shirley Peppler, Uncle and Aunt Norman and Beverly Peppler, along with a number of cousins and dozens of nieces and nephews.
