Clinton was born on October 24, 1923 in Beech Grove, Arkansas, to Jasper and Ester (Inez) North. Graduating from high school during World War II, he attempted to enlist but was unable to do so because of hearing loss he experienced during childhood. After locating to the Flint area, he met the love of his life, Constance Morgan, while roller skating with friends. They married November 22, 1945. After Clinton's retirement in 1975, he and Connie sold their home in Flushing and moved to Venice, Florida. They later relocated to North Carolina and returned to Michigan several years ago to be close to family. Clinton hired into Buick Motor Division in June, 1947, later transferring to Flint's Truck & Bus Assembly. He retired from there in January, 1975 with 31.3 years of service. During his tenure at General Motors, he was active member of U.A.W. Local 598, holding various elected positions during the 1960's. In retirement, he and Connie enjoyed attending all retiree functions and sharing stories with others about their years in the plant. A union supporter to the end, Clinton joined active U.A.W. members and walked on the picket line during the 2019 strike. Clinton loved traveling with Connie in their motorhome, reading westerns and working in his wood working shop. Many in the family were recipients of furniture and decorative pieces he had made. Clinton will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and laugh! He will be missed by his surviving sisters, Bernita Henson and Nina Sneller; sister-in-law, Betty Morgan; cousin, Betty Mitchell; many nieces and nephews; caregiver and close friend Sheila Desotelle; and members of U.A.W Local 598.
