CRANSTON, Claude M. - Age 95, of Linden, died Friday, December 11, 2015. An Open House Memorial Celebration will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Shiawassee Shores Clubhouse in Linden from 1-4 PM with a sharing time beginning at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Linden Mills Historical Society, Linden High School Athletic Hall of Fame or Linden Sportsmens Club. Arrangements are being handled by Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Claude was born February 8, 1920 in Linden, the son of Sidney "Ed" and Ivah Mae (Hyatt) Cranston. He was the Salutatorian of the Linden High School Class of 1937. He graduated from Kalamazoo College and the University of Michigan. He married Verna L. Wheeler on June 11, 1941; she preceded him in death on April 1, 2014. Claude retired from Linden Schools in 1979 with 38 years of service. Claude was one of four that were the initial inductees into the Linden High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Genesee County Coaches and Officials Association. He was very active in local and state athletics. Claude was a founding member of the Linden Sportsmens Club. He was a charter member of the Linden Kiwanis and Linden Mills Historical Society. Claude was a life member of the American Trap Shooting Association. Claude is survived by his daughter, Susan Garber of Angola, IN.; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cranston of Kent, Ohio.; sister-in-law, Glenna Judson Teed; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Verna; son, Dr. Jay Cranston; sister, Beverly Sprauge; brothers, Elliott Cranston and George Judson.
