Clara Lou SCHMIDT

SCHMIDT, Clara Lou, age 87, of Gaines passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009 at home. Funeral Services will be 11AM Monday, March 30, 2009 at Gaines United Methodist Church, 117 W. Clinton St., Gaines with Rev. John D. Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Owosso. Visitation will be Sunday 1-8PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Clara was born September 23, 1921 in Hillsdale, MI the daughter of the late Clyde Laser and Leah Knee. She married Robert Schmidt in Durand on February 21, 1970 and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1998. Early in her life, Clara was employed by Durand Area Rural Schools as a teacher. She then opened her own businesses in Durand, Laser's Garden Shop and later Schmidt's Blumenhaus until she retired in 1997. She was a member of Gaines United Methodist Church and enjoyed painting after retirement. Her greatest loves were her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her son, David (Sue) Schmidt of Suttons Bay; daughter, Martha (Edward) Ford of Swartz Creek; 4 grandchildren, Mandi Mae Conklin (fiance, Shane Cords), Matthew Conklin, Dylan Schmidt, Hannah Pearl Schmidt; 1 great-granddaughter, Amanda Mae Cords; 5 step-grandchildren, Sara, Heidi, Emily, Adam, Ryan Konieczka; brother, Richard Laser of Durand and many nieces and nephews.
